Left Back- Nacho Fernandez- 7.5/10

Nacho started the fixture on Saturday night as per expectations. The 27-year-old is known to have a commendable versatility of fitting literally anywhere in the back line. This time, he was asked to occupy the left back’s role in the absence of Marcelo, who was rested. The game did not start very well for him as he picked up a yellow for dissent.

But eventually, he started to churn out a good performance by the end of the night. Keeping in mind his lack of quality in the attacking area, especially from the left hand side, Nacho stayed committed to defensive duties in spite of the high line that Real Madrid held.

Centre Back- Sergio Ramos- 8/10

Sergio Ramos was asked to put in a captain’s role against Espanyol who turned out to be brave opponents to Real Madrid during the match. The captain did make one error that could have proven to be expensive, but thankfully it didn’t happen. He had a brilliant headed opportunity saved by Diego Lopez and was present all over the pitch. Though his movement needs restriction, it was a good display.

Centre Back- Raphael Varane- 7/10

It was yet another calm night for Raphael Varane who did not have much work to do. Most of the build ups coming from the visitors were through Madrid’s left flank. Yet, Varane did win most of his aerial duels and possession for his side. He also distributed the ball around confidently like he usually does and completed 89% of his passes.

Right Back- Alvaro Odriozola- 8/10

The former Real Sociedad right back made his first official appearance for the Whites and delivered a superb performance. Odriozola’s speed was the main feature of his great display. He was present as per demand in the attacking and defending fronts. The 22-year-old put his speed to great use and made good use of his stamina to fulfil his duties.
