CM: Miralem Pjanic 8/10

My biggest takeaway on Miralem Pjanic in this match was that he inexplicably isn’t given free kick duties anymore. Cristiano Ronaldo may be the second best player in the world, but Pjanic scores more consistently on free kicks and sends in better passes from free kicks. Paulo Dybala shouldn’t even be in the conversation right now. Pjanic is the superior free kick taker and Dybala is horribly out of form at this moment. Juve is just giving away opportunities by not having him take free kicks.

With that rant out of the way, there was plenty that went right for Pjanic in this match. He provided 3 key passes, 1 of Juve’s 6 accurate crosses, and most importantly, the assist on Bernardeschi’s goal. Juve didn’t have much to be happy about in the attacking half, but Pjanic was one of the few bright spots.

CM: Emre Can 7/10

Can wasn’t great in this match, but he offers more than Sami Khedira and should be started here consistently. He provided a key pass that didn’t amount to much and completed 92% of his passes.  He also made a contribution defensively with 2 tackles and an interception. He may have just been a victim of an off game for the whole squad as he is usually able to offer more in attack with his passing. Now that he’s had time to fit in at Juve he should be given more chances in this position to see if he can make an improvement over this performance.

CM: Rodrigo Bentancur 7/10

This was a disappointing first start of the year for Bentancur. He supplied 4 key passes, but wasn’t really able to add much to the attack. He lacked the creativity needed to unlock Frosinone’s defense and the energy that Blaise Matuidi usually brings to the position. However, he is still a young prospect and isn’t quite in top form yet this season because of his limited playing time. It’s reasonable to expect that this will be one of his worst performances of the year.
