The situation at Old Trafford doesn’t look too good for Jose Mourinho, as several Manchester United players are reportedly angry with him following a humiliating Carabao Cup exit.

Manchester United manager Mourinho has never backed out of criticizing his players in public, but his recent comments about Phil Jones and Eric Bailly have not gone down well.

Juan Mata gave United the perfect start on Tuesday night by giving them the lead with just 3 minutes on the clock. Derby County, however, launched a remarkable comeback through Harry Wilson and Jack Marriott, only for Marouane Fellaini to equalise in stoppage time.

The game went to penalties, where every single spot kick was scored until Phil Jones’ penalty was saved to decide the tie 7-8 in Derby’s favor.

Following the match, Mourinho told the media, “When I saw going after the sixth and seventh, I knew we would be in trouble with Jones and Eric.”

The 55 year old’s decision to strip Pogba of his captaincy before the match on Tuesday night was another example of his negative approach towards his players.

The 25 year old midfielder had earlier called for his team to adopt a more attacking approach at Old Trafford. This was after a disappointing 1-1 draw at home to Wolves in the Premier League.

In spite of him slowly losing support in the dressing room, United’s high command is reportedly backing Mourinho to guide the team out of a poor run of form.

The players are also reportedly aware of the board’s decision to support him, leading to an atmosphere of frustration and helplessness in the first team.

Should the United hierarchy chose to replace the Portuguese manager, a few names have been touted as possible replacements, including Ryan Giggs and Zinedine Zidane.

Zidane resigned from his post as Real Madrid manager after a third successive Champions League win. The Frenchman has his eye set on the United job.

Considering his impressive resume, United will have to move fast to secure his services.
