Bayern Munich are ready to trigger the purchase option for on-loan Real Madrid playmaker James Rodriguez.

According to Sport BILD, Bayern Munich are set to exercise their option to sign James Rodriguez on a permanent transfer before the end of the year. The Bavarian club will pay a fee of 42 million euros to Real Madrid for the Colombian international.

Rodriguez, who won the Golden Boot at the 2014 FIFA World Cup, joined Bayern Munich on an initial two-year loan deal in 2017 after falling out of favor at Real Madrid. The 27-year-old has rediscovered his form since moving to Germany and played a vital role for his side last season. He scored seven goals and provided 11 assists as Bayern cruised to their sixth straight Bundesliga title.

He has continued his impressive run of form this season by scoring two goals and adding two assists in five appearances in all competitions.

His successful loan spell has prompted Bayern to make his move to Munich permanent. However, the report also adds that while Rodriguez will sign a four-year contract with Bayern Munich, he could still be sold next summer if the German giants decide to cash in on their star man.

Despite his impressive performances, Bayern’s embarrassment of riches in attack has meant that James Rodriguez has been limited to only two starts so far this season. And if his situation does not improve by the end of the season, the play-maker could be on the move once again next summer. He was linked with a number of Premier League clubs before he joined Bayern at the start of last season, and there will be no shortage of suitors if he decides to leave the club next summer.

But for now, Rodriguez is set to seal a permanent transfer to Bayern Munich and will be hoping to help the club win the Bundesliga title once again this season. Niko Kovac’s side have made a near perfect start to the new season and already have a two point advantage at the top of the table.
