Projected Napoli lineup vs Juventus: Insigne leads chase for top of the table
By John Vaccaro
LW: Lorenzo Insigne
Lorenzo Insigne has arguably been the best performer in Serie A this season. He is currently tied for second among Serie A goalscorers with 5 goals scored and even added an assist in the match against Parma. He has been particularly impressive recently as 4 of those 5 goals and his assist have come in the last 3 matches. If Napoli wins this match it will largely be because of Insigne. He is their most influential player and if Napoli can get him the ball he is all too capable of giving Juve’s defense headaches for 90 minutes.
ST: Dries Mertens

This one was a tough call. Arkadiusz Milik and Dries Mertens both have a claim to this spot. Milik arguably has the better claim to this spot with 3 goals and an assist in 5 league appearances this season. However, Mertens provides the more unique challenge in this position. Milik is a big, physical striker who has played very well now that he is healthy, but Mertens has pace that can give Juve’s defense issues. Giorgio Chiellini and Leonardo Bonucci handle physicality very well and rarely get beaten in the air. Napoli should use the Mertens to combine with Insigne and let them use their pace to try to beat Juve’s defense on counterattacks. I wouldn’t be shocked to see Milik get the start, but I think Napoli should take the less straightforward approach her and use two interchangeable attackers to open up Juve’s defense.
RW: Jose Callejon
Simone Verdi has played well in the chances Napoli has given him this year, but Jose Callejon has been a huge part of this attack since coming over from Real Madrid. Callejon has already supplied 2 assists this season and is contributing an incredible 4.3 key passes per match. It will take an incredible run from Verdi to take this spot from Callejon. The trio of Callejon, Insigne, and Mertens has been deadly for the last few years and we can expect to see plenty more of it this year.
Callejon will be a lot to handle on the right-wing and could be the difference maker for the attack in this match.
