#10 Michel Platini

Before the French folk feasted their eyes watching the ever graceful Zinedine Zidane, it was all about Michel Platini for Les Blues.

Platini was blessed with dextrous passing skills coupled with an excellent vision. He had a knack for spotting passes and creating spaces in the tightest situations, given his excellent reading of the game.

Apart from being the mellifluous passer that he was, the Frenchman was also well-adept at taking penalties and free-kicks. His impressive technical ability and leadership skills earned him the nickname ‘Le Roi’ meaning ‘The King’ in French.

Platini amassed a number of major accolades in his sparkling career barring the World Cup, albeit he did guide France to the European Championship glory in 1984. He clinched 3 league titles and a European Cup title, further decorating his trophy room by winning the Ballon d’Or thrice and in succession from 1983 to 1985.

Michel Platini might have tainted a majority of his reputation after he was found guilty of fixing games in the 1998 World Cup draw, but that doesn’t take away the fact that he is one of the greatest players ever to have touched a football.
