Power rankings: Ranking the top 10 footballers of all time
#9 Sergio Ramos
Now, please bear with me on this one. Many of you might not agree with this selection, knowing how ruthless Sergio Ramos can be while defending the sticks. The Spaniard is infamous for being sent off often, and in that context, including names such as Carles Puyol, Roberto Carlos or Paolo Maldini makes more sense.
But, the Real Madrid skipper’s habit of chipping in crucial goals in times of need is what differentiates him from the aforementioned legends. His ability to influence games combined with his impressive haul of silverware makes him a man you cannot ignore.
Sergio Ramos scored an extremely vital equalizer in the 2014 Champions League final. He netted a brace, including a converted penalty in the shootout that proved to be decisive in Real Madrid’s victory in the UCL final of 2016. To top it all, he has captained a historic side that won the Champions League thrice and in a row.
An aggressive defender who is very tough to get past, Ramos has been gifted with a fine pace, technical and crossing abilities. Given his excellent leadership skills, any team would be relaxed to have Sergio Ramos manning their posts.
With 4 Champions League titles, a World Cup and a Euro medal, and 4 league titles, won’t it be a sin to overlook him as a contender amongst all-time greats?
