As of late, their only main concern in the media has been the contract dispute between the club and Aaron Ramsey. Now, there are speculations that Arsenal already have their replacement.

Atlanta United maestro Miguel Almiron is being strongly linked with a January move to Arsenal. The electric Paraguayan would be a fantastic addition to an already talented midfield that is filled with skill and overall ability.

The first reaction to a rumour like this would be to dismiss the quality of the player simply because he plays in MLS. Almiron has been capped 12 times by the senior Paraguay national and has been pivotal to Atlanta United‘s success in MLS in the past two seasons.

His play goes beyond just being a good MLS player. Almiron reads the game very well when moving forward and often breaks in behind defenses. The quick feet and speed he possesses make him a threat against any opposition.

If it seems that Almiron is not exactly a like for like replacement for Ramsey, it is because he is not meant to be. Almiron is meant to bring a new type of dynamism to the Arsenal midfield that Ramsey lacks at times.

Ramsey is still a high quality midfielder capable of performing stunning flicks and eye catching goals. Almiron is bringing a bit more flow to the position, though, as he is deadly with the ball at his feet and much faster than Ramsey.

Almiron is a bit smaller than Ramsey, but he will likely be playing in a position that will not be affected by his stature. Playing Almiron behind Lacazette and in between Aubameyang and Ozil would suit all four players perfectly.

The move would be huge for MLS and Arsenal alike. It would establish the legitimacy of the league while also opening the door for other moves similar to this one. Arsenal’s gain is clear, with Almiron bringing some South American flair to the midfield.
