Liverpool are already blessed with a plethora of talented strikers, Tottenham cannot afford to let the Reds pip them for another prolific forward.

Credit Jurgen Klopp for understanding the value of doubling down on his squad’s strength. Even though Liverpool have more than enough talented centre forwards, it’s not stopping him from working to sign another. Mauricio Pochettino and Tottenham need to step in and make sure Klopp isn’t able to add Krzysztof Piatek to his cadre of goal scorers.

Reports from England claim the Genoa sensation may be available for a bid of somewhere around £35 million pounds. At that price, it’s no surprise Tottenham and Liverpool are both interested in his services.

Piatek has been nothing short of sensational in Serie A play this season. He leads Genoa with nine goals in just seven league appearances on the campaign. The club would certainly prefer to keep hold of the 23-year-old Polish star, but the financial might of clubs like Tottenham and Liverpool can make that impossible for Genoa.

If you’re wondering how Piatek plays, it’s fair to classify him as a classic centre forward. He’s a big, physical force in the box who can torment defences with his aerial prowess. What separates him is his ability to finish shots from distance as well. We’re not saying he is the next Harry Kane, but he certainly plays the position in that same style.

Obviously, that means he’d give Liverpool something different. Roberto Firmino has done an excellent job of leading Klopp’s line, but he’s more of a false nine. Daniel Sturridge is arguably the club’s best No. 9, but his injury issues make it impossible to rely on him. It’s clear to see how the Reds could benefit from acquiring Piatek.

Simply put, Spurs can’t allow it to happen. Finding a striker to provide cover for Kane continues to vex Pochettino and company. Piatek is the sort of player who can replace the Englishman in the starting XI and play alongside him in loads of lineups. This is precisely the sort of player Daniel Levy should break the bank to sign.

Next. Tottenham shouldn't break the bank on Championship ace. dark

Time will tell if Tottenham have the nerve to really go toe-to-toe with Liverpool for Piatek’s signature. If they do, they can close the talent gap on Liverpool. If they don’t, it’s only going to allow Klopp’s side to widen the talent gap between the two Premier League clubs.
