5 players Manchester United should sign in January
#1: Florian Thauvin (Marseille)
Manchester United were sort of mistaken in bringing Alexis Sanchez from Arsenal in January this year. The Chilean has proven to be surplus to requirements on the left flank at Old Trafford alongside Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial, both of whom were already contesting for a starting XI spot on the left before his arrival.
What United actually needed was a right-winger who could strengthen the right flank by adding some creativity and aerial threat with his crosses.
An issue that was astonishingly left unattended even in the summer, Jose Mourinho will now have the best chance to rectify his mistake coming winter. And, there could be no better option French winger Florian Thauvin to help him in the case.
The Marseille winger was one of the top-notch attackers in Europe’s top 5 leagues last season. He rattled the net 26 times and created 18 more goals in 54 games in all competitions. He was also a part of France’s World Cup-winning squad this summer.
Since the start of season 2018/19, the 25-year-old has already netted 7 goals in 13 games in all competitions and assisted 3 more. He also averages 2.7 shots per game and makes 1.4 key passes per game.
He is a strong finisher and likes to cut inside, a factor that will give United the cutting edge on the right-hand side. He also has fine dribbling abilities with a blistering pace and is also excellent with set-pieces.
All in all, Florian Thauvin is a complete attacking package Jose Mourinho dare not miss out on this winter.
