Manchester United set to hand Anthony Martial a new contract
The 22-year-old winger has been in and out of Jose Mourinho’s plans this season, but Manchester United are expected to offer him a new five-year contract.
Manchester United winger Anthony Martial was widely expected to leave Old Trafford in the summer, after becoming second choice following the arrival of Alexis Sanchez from Arsenal.
There was reportedly interest from Chelsea and Bayern Munich in the summer, but United managed to hold on to him.
This season started in much the same way as the previous one ended, with Martial relegated to the occasional cameo off the bench.

But Sanchez’s poor form of late has seen Mourinho hand more opportunities to the Frenchman, who scored the equalizer in a much-needed 3-2 comeback win against Newcastle.
In spite of that win before the international break, Mourinho’s job is still far from safe, with daunting fixtures against Chelsea, Juventus and Everton coming up.
Martial’s current deal at United sees him earn around £75,000 per week, with the contract running out next June.
The new offer will feature a considerable pay rise. Martial is expected to sign the deal, given that he will most likely outlast Mourinho at the club.
Several other players also have their contracts running out next summer, including Matteo Darmian, Ashley Young, Chris Smalling, Phil Jones, and club captain Antonio Valencia.
United have, however, prioritized Luke Shaw and David De Gea for new deals, alongside Martial. De Gea has long been a target for Real Madrid, but the signing of Thibaut Courtois served to allay fears that the Spaniard would leave Old Trafford.
The new deal that United are working on for him will reportedly see him become the highest earner at the club, and it’ll be very hard for him to turn it down.
Luke Shaw’s career at Old Trafford has been ravaged by injuries, but he’s been the stand-out player for them so far this season, establishing himself as first choice for club and country.
His new contract might see him earn up to £150,000 per week, making him one of the highest paid defenders in the world.
Manchester United’s next fixture is away at Chelsea in the Premier League, as Mourinho attempts to redeem himself at the home of his former club.
