Juventus has yet to drop a point this season, but there is still plenty of room for the team to improve.

Juventus is the only team in the top 5 leagues who has won all of their matches in every competition. However, there are some pieces missing from this impressive roster.

The most glaring issue is one that Juventus partially brought upon themselves. When Juve let Claudio Marchisio go on the last day of the summer transfer window they left themselves with only 5 midfielders on their roster. This didn’t seem like much of a problem at the time as the assumption was that Juve would play a 4-2-3-1, but when they switched to the 4-3-3 they suddenly lacked the depth to properly rotate the midfield. Sami Khedira’s injury woes have only served to intensify that lack of depth.

On top of that issue, Juve has lacked a true attacking presence from the midfield. Last season they used Sami Khedira as a scoring option, but he is declining and has been unable to stay healthy this season. Adding a true scoring threat to the midfield would keep the attack ticking even when the forwards are struggling. It would also solve the depth problem, which would make a big difference as Juve tries to complete a treble this season.

The other two positions that need to be addressed are future issues that can be solved right now. Juve lacks any kind of future at striker and their only center back who isn’t in their 30s is Daniele Rugani, who could leave in the near future if he continues to ride the bench. Juve should solve these problems now, so they don’t end up scrambling to fill these roles when they badly need somebody in the role.

Juve’s roster may seem pretty complete right now, but signing a player to fit each of these positions would go a long way in helping Juve consistently compete for Champions League titles.
