According to reports in Spain, Barcelona would not rule out a potential return for Neymar. While rumors at this point, a return to the Camp Nou seems unlikely.

Reports out of Spain claim that former Barcelona player, Neymar, wants to return to the Catalan club. Barcelona outlet, Mundo Deportivo, report that the player offered himself last summer but that those in charge balked at any potential move.

However, this time around, the powers that be at the Camp Nou are not ruling out a move in the future.

According to the report, Neymar wants to come back for a variety of reasons. One of those is that Neymar has still not gotten comfortable to his surroundings at Paris Saint Germain. He is said to miss the life he had in Barcelona as well as playing for a club the size of Barcelona. He also misses his teammates, most notably, Lionel Messi.

Another reason is that the Brazilian has not reached the level of individual success as he had hoped when he made the shock move back in 2017. He was unable to guide PSG to Champions League glory nor was he able to win the Ballon d’Or. To make matter worse, he’s no longer the main star in his club. He left Barcelona to escape the shadow of Lionel Messi but now finds himself in the shadow of 19-year old, Kylian Mbappe.

Mbappe has continued the form he showed at Monaco and is coming off winning the World Cup with France.

While Neymar might want to return and despite the hierarchy at Barcelona calling a potential move “not impossible,” it is highly unlikely.

PSG are unlikely to negotiate with Barcelona over Neymar. The French side paid in excess of €200 million to sign him and if any deal was to be made, Barcelona would have to pay as much. At this point, with an aging squad, it would be unwise to spend that amount on one single players when there are other areas of concern.

Another factor making a move near impossible is where would he fit in the current set up at Barcelona? The club already has Ousmane Dembele playing on the left of a front three as well as Philippe Coutinho when Ernesto Valverde decides to switch things up. If he were to return, one of those two players would have to be sold in order to finance the move and avoid any complications with the Financial Fair Play rules.

If Neymar makes his desire to leave public, Barcelona are not the only club to be interested in him. The relationship between Barcelona and PSG is frosty at best and may wind up selling him to Real Madrid instead. The Madrileños are an option according to Sport. They have been rather quiet these past transfer windows and are still looking to replace Cristiano Ronaldo.

Neymar and his former Barcelona teammates might be in favor of a reunion but it seems like it’s a hopeful wish rather than anything concrete. There are too many obstacles standing in the way. He made a decision to leave and now he has to live with it.
