CM: Blaise Matuidi

Juventus should thank France for giving Matuidi a match off during the international break. Matuidi had played 4 in a row before the international break and Juve really couldn’t afford to rest him there with their complete lack of midfield depth. In this match he will be asked to make his usual contribution and keep patrol the midfield for Juve. If he can keep Genoa from comfortably building out of the back then Juve should be able to capitalize on a big advantage in possession. Matuidi is one of the most important players in this current squad and that isn’t something that will change for he match against Genoa.

CM: Emre Can

Emre Can has yet to really show his potential at Juventus. We have seen flashes of his ability since his arrival from Liverpool, but he has struggled to fit into this squad and hasn’t really needed to do anything impressive when brought on as a sub. That could change in this match as Juve will need to fill a creative void and they should have enough possession for Can to get plenty of chances to show off. Can needs to start putting on impressive performances soon because Sami Khedira won’t be out for much longer and Allegri really needs to be given a reason not to start Khedira.

CM: Rodrigo Bentancur

It probably seems weird to have Bentancur in this spot coming out of an international break, but Juventus badly needs to rest Pjanic heading into the big midweek trip to Manchester. Pjanic has started the last 6 matches for Juventus and started both matches for Bosnia and Herzegovina during the break. That leaves Bentancur as the most reasonable option to start here. He has been steadily earning more playing time in his recent appearances, including scoring Juve’s opener against Udinese. Juve’s midfield will be in good hands with Bentancur getting the start.
