Juventus player ratings vs Genoa: The perfect run is over
By John Vaccaro
This shouldn’t have been the match where Juventus lost their perfect record.
Simply put, Genoa isn’t the type of team that Juve should struggle with. They have been the definition of average and had to go to Torino for this match. On top of that, Juve was in complete control of this match until they switched off in the second half. The saddest part is the first half was one of the best halves Juve has played all season.
Juventus came out looking like they were going to dispatch Genoa quickly. Joao Cancelo seemed unstoppable down the right side and every time they went forward it felt like they were on the verge of scoring. Unfortunately, that only led to one goal when Cancelo tried a shot in the 18th minute that got deflected and then palmed right to Ronaldo who tapped it in. The rest of the half continued with Juve looking dangerous, but with nothing to show it.
It seemed like a different team came out of the halftime tunnel. Juve seemed to have taken their foot off of the gas at halftime and never looked even remotely threatening in the second half. That disappointing second half performance culminated in Genoa finding an equalizer when the entire defense just stopped playing when they thought a ball went over the touchline. Christian Kouame used that opportunity to send a cross that Daniel Bessa met with his head and put into the back of the net in the 67th minute.
Even needing a goal to win Juve never looked like they were close to getting a second goal the rest of the way. It was a disappointing performance to say the least and resulted in the worst ratings Juve’s squad has received this year.
GK: Wojciech Szczesny 6/10
There wasn’t much to Szczesny’s match against Genoa. Genoa only put 2 shots on target. One of them didn’t really have a chance to score and the other didn’t really have a chance to be saved. Szczesny’s defense really let him down in this one and hopefully he won’t be put in such an awful situation on Tuesday against Manchester United.
