Juventus player ratings vs Genoa: The perfect run is over
By John Vaccaro
CM: Blaise Matuidi 6.5/10
Matuidi was yet another unfortunate victim of Juve’s second half letdown. He had played very well in the first half, eliminating any threat from Genoa. However, his tackle and 3 interceptions went to waste thanks to Juve’s second half effort. During most of his time during this match Matuidi did his job perfectly, keeping Genoa off-balance and unable to create an effective counterattack. A lapse from the defense ruined that, but if Matuidi performs this well during the week then he will play a big part in Juve’s match against United.
CM: Miralem Pjanic 8/10
This was likely Pjanic’s best match of the season. Yes, he had a match where he scored 2 goals from the penalty spot, but as a creator it is very difficult to match his insane 9 key passes in this match. Almost as impressively he contributed an unusual 2 tackles and 5 interceptions, helping keep Juve in control for long stretches of the match. It’s too bad that this one went to waste because this was the type of match Juve fans have been waiting for from Pjanic. He hasn’t been able to create for Juve this season like he has in the past, but if this match is any indication then he will be another dangerous piece for Juve moving forward.
CM: Rodrigo Bentancur 6.5/10
I was really excited about Allegri giving Bentancur a start for this match, but in the second half it was easy to forget that he was even on the field. While the rest of the midfield had impressive individual performances Bentancur didn’t offer much going forward. He did contribute 2 tackles and 2 interceptions, but overall this wasn’t a great day for Bentancur. He was clearly trying to make something happen when Juve pressed forward in the first half, but he fell into the same trap as the rest of the squad in the second half and stopped contributing anything significant to the attack. When Bentancur was named to the starting lineup I expected to see something impressive from him in this match, but unfortunately we will just have to hope his next start is the one he makes count.
