Juventus player ratings vs Genoa: The perfect run is over
By John Vaccaro
Douglas Costa 6/10
Not only did Bernardeschi not get the start in this match, but even Douglas Costa got into the match on the right-wing before he did. Costa’s introduction in the match set like something you do when you’re up big, not 1-0. He hadn’t played in a month and it certainly showed in this match. He didn’t belong on the field in a competitive match and really didn’t provide anything positive for Juve. This was another bad call from Allegri.
Paulo Dybala 6/10
Did Paulo Dybala even actually appear in this match? He supposedly came on in the 70th minute, but I don’t remember him doing anything even remotely useful for Juve. This is a recurring theme for Dybala this season. He has only been effective in one and it wasn’t the one he played in this match. Allegri needs to stop trying to fit him into the lineup or it will continue to cost Juve.
Federico Bernardeschi 6.5/10

Bernardeschi didn’t have much time in this match, only coming on for 14 minutes, but he did manage to supply a key pass during this match. He didn’t offer much else, but I think that was a product of the lineup he was in. With Ronaldo, Dybala, and Costa all on the field there weren’t many touches available for Bernardeschi. He wasn’t able to do much for Juve in this match, but I’ll be hoping to see him in the starting eleven on Tuesday.
Manager: Massimiliano Allegri 0/10
A zero might be a little bit harsh, but I honestly don’t think Allegri did anything right in this match and any time Juve drops points to teams that don’t have Napoli, Roma, or Milan in their names, Allegri is going to get a bad grade. The first mistake Allegri made was giving the captain’s armband to Leonardo Bonucci. Making Bonucci the captain with his recent history is a slap in the face to every other player that has ever worn the armband. Mandzukic should’ve been given the armband as a reward for the constant hard work he has put at Juve and the attitude he brings to the team, but Allegri dropped the ball on that one.
The next mistake was not starting Federico Bernardeschi, but you’ve already gotten that rant. The final mistake (although it didn’t impact the outcome of this match) was starting Miralem Pjanic. He has now started 7 consecutive matches for Juve and started both matches for Bosnia and Herzegovina during the international break.
There are much more important games on the schedule than Genoa (who they drew against anyway), Pjanic should be saved for those matches. Also, his first two substitutions weren’t particularly useful. Dybala and Costa didn’t add anything to an attack desperate for a goal.
This was easily the worst match of the year for Allegri and he’ll need to be much better on Tuesday.
