Jose Mourinho could be banned following his Stamford Bridge antics
By Kian Long
There was plenty to talk about this weekend, as Manchester United took on Chelsea. Obviously, Jose Mourinho was in the midst of all the action, but he could be punished.
This game had everything. Plenty of goals, late drama, and of course, the additional late drama outside of the pitch. If you don’t know what I’m talking about, then Jose Mourinho went after a member of the Chelsea staff following his, let’s say extravagant, reaction to Ross Barkley’s late equaliser. Apologies for the spoiler.
Anyway, a lot of people have been looking into what happened at the weekend, and I think the general consensus is that Marco Ianni, Chelsea’s second assistant coach, was the one in the wrong. Although as is always the case in football, it’s not that simple, with the Daily Express reporting it could be Mourinho who suffers the touchline ban for his reaction.

If this is the case, then don’t you worry, you’ll soon hear about it from Mourinho. He has already reminded the Chelsea fans of all he did for their club, turning them into the force they are to this day. As we took a look at the reactions from Twitter, many shunned the Stamford Bridge crowd for disrespecting their greatest ever manager.
So, I guess you could say that actually, Mourinho isn’t in the wrong for going after Ianni. I mean, the emotion on the day must have been all over the place, and to see the disrespectful reaction was bound to trigger a nerve in Mourinho’s mind.
Many people will argue this with Mourinho’s reputation. And you’d be absolutely right, given a wide array of Mourinho’s touchline reactions over the years, the most infamous being from his time at Internazionale.
However, you can never use the opponent’s reputation to justify an act; Ianni’s reaction to the goal was wrong, and it shouldn’t be argued otherwise. I mean, even Maurizio Sarri of all people has come forward to say that it was the Chelsea dugout who were in the wrong, and I don’t know about you, but I wouldn’t want to argue with Sarri.
Therefore, I believe that Mourinho facing a touchline ban would be ridiculous. The Premier League is renowned for its drama, so this would be a sign that the FA are getting too soft. After all, it should be Ianni facing the consequences, not Mourinho.
What do you think? Should Jose Mourinho be punished?
