Juventus projected lineup vs Manchester United: Ronaldo returns to Old Trafford
By John Vaccaro
GK: Wojciech Szczesny
Wojciech Szczesny has earned the right to start these important matches for Juve. Every goal he has surrendered this season he had no chance to save. He has made a few great saves this season, including his penalty save against Valencia during Juve’s first Champions League match of the season. That save and what keeping that clean sheet meant for Juventus secured this job for Szczesny until he does something to lose it.
LB: Alex Sandro
Alex Sandro played his most complete match of the season against Genoa on Saturday. He made 3 tackles and 4 interceptions in the match and looked as dangerous as he has looked all season when joining the attack. He made 5 key passes in the match including 2 accurate crosses. For the first time all season it seemed as though every cross he sent in gave Genoa something to worry about. It took a little while for Sandro to find his attacking form, but this performance couldn’t have come at a better time. With Sandro clicking on both ends of the field Juventus becomes an even tougher team to beat.
RB: Joao Cancelo
Juve robbed Valencia when they bought Joao Cancelo for only 40 million euros. Absolutely robbed them. Joao Cancelo has arguably been the best right back in Serie A this season. With the way he has progressed during his short time at Juve he looks like he could be the best right back in the world someday. He has tackled well this season and has been one of Juve’s most dangerous options on the wing. In the first half of the match against Genoa he was Juve’s best player. He looked like an unstoppable force running down the right side. His second half performance and that of Juve as a whole put a damper on things for Cancelo, but if he can put in a match on Tuesday that looks like his first half against Genoa then United will have a long day.
