Real Madrid have reportedly run out of patience with Julen Lopetegui, and rightly so given the club’s poor run of form this season.

Real Madrid lost this weekend’s fixture with Levante. It could easily be seen as completely coincidental, but when you take a look at the form of Los Blancos, you will see that there are problems which need addressing. Madrid, being the super club they are, will never leave a problem for long enough to become detrimental, thus they are looking at alternatives.

According to Talksport, it will be Santiago Solari who will take over from Lopetegui at Madrid. It was reported that Antonio Conte would take the job, but now it seems that the Real Madrid hierarchy favour the manager of their B-team.

More from Real Madrid

There’s a clear pattern beginning to emerge here. Whenever possible, Real Madrid will always look to acquire their former players to take over from the club. Perhaps it’s because the Santiago Bernabeu is the government’s cover-up place for extra-terrestrial research and they don’t want outsiders knowing, but that’s a conspiracy theory for another day.

In all seriousness though, I believe this model is beneficial. Although it didn’t quite work for Lopetegui, it certainly worked with Zinedine Zidane. The Frenchman went on to win three consecutive Champions League titles, a feat which not many can say they’ve achieved. I mean, Lopetegui only made one appearance for Madrid during his playing days, so does he really count, anyway?

Solari will know all about the values of working with Real Madrid, and he will have learned plenty more during his time as manager of Real Madrid Castilla. It will take someone like him to form a close connection with the Los Blancos stars, and some of them certainly need it.

Nobody knows if he is the ideal long-term solution, but for right now, anybody has to be better than Lopetegui. #WengerIn, and all that jazz.
