Juventus player ratings vs Manchester United: Dybala delivers dominant win
By John Vaccaro
CM: Rodrigo Bentancur 6.5/10
This wasn’t a match that Bentancur was supposed to start, but he was thrust into duty with both Emre Can and Sami Khedira unavailable. It simply looked like a match that he wasn’t ready for. he didn’t make any kind of glaring mistake that would make Juve regret using him in this match, but he was mostly invisible throughout the day. In the past he has shown potential to one day play a key role in matches like this for Juventus. That day just wasn’t Tuesday.
CM: Miralem Pjanic 7.5/10
Miralem Pjanic had a very productive day for Juve. He sent in a few crosses that looked like they could give Juve chances to score and he was even able to make a couple of tackles. There was one key piece of Pjanic’s game missing in this match though, and it’s not his fault at all. I simply don’t understand why Pjanic has had his role reduced on free kicks. I understand that they have a shiny new toy now, but Pjanic is a better free kick taker than Ronaldo. Pjanic is also a much better decision maker on free kicks, opting to send in a cross when the angle or distance are wrong for a shot. Pjanic played well in this match, he could just do so much more if he was able to more consistently take free kicks.
CM: Blaise Matuidi 7.5/10
Before the match I highlighted Blaise Matuidi vs Paul Pogba as the most important matchup in this match, Unfortunately, for Manchester United it wasn’t really a matchup at all thanks to Jose Mourinho’s wasteful tactics. Matuidi did however manage to neutralize Juan Mata who was functioning as the team’s attacking midfielder. As a whole Juve’s midfield didn’t give United’s much to work with in this match and Matuidi was once again a big part of that effort.
