It looked like Arsenal would suffer from their first stalemate of the season, but it was Danny Welbeck who came up with the goods late on against Sporting CP.
Arsenal came up against Sporting CP in the capital of Portugal tonight. It was by no means the most emphatic match of all time, being held to a stalemate throughout the majority. However, there was plenty of action, albeit most of the chances created were half chances. Still, Arsenal was never going to settle for a draw. That’s the kind of attitude Unai Emery has given them.
It was Danny Welbeck who gave Arsenal the lead right before he was substituted off. He pounced on a mistake by the Sporting defender, and his finish was impressively composed given the outlook of the match at the time.

It wasn’t Arsenal’s finest attacking display of the season, I’ll be the first to admit. And in all honesty, it wouldn’t have mattered much should they have drawn this game. But Arsenal fans can feel overall positive from the win.
Given the context of the group, if Arsenal can beat Sporting at home, then they will qualify in first place. That’s not a bad showing for Unai Emery’s return to the Europa League!
As is always the case whenever Danny Welbeck, or should I say Wele scores, Twitter was the place to be. You could guarantee before you even opened it that Arsenal fans would be all over the place. That said, I have gone ahead and compiled a list of the best reactions…
Mkhi needs to grab the opportunities he is getting. Starting lots of games but not doing much.

The fans were unhappy with the performance of Henrikh Mkhitaryan.
Good of the referee to observe the law that a Welbeck goal doesn't count unless he falls over as he scores it.

Welbeck actually scored twice, but certain laws need to apply in order for Welbeck’s goals to count.
Welbeck best striker in world

Is there even anyone denying this fact at this point?
Welbeck deserves a new contract. Excellent squad player. Always has been.

His contract runs out at the end of this season. Many fans feel like he deserves a new contract.
THE BIGGEST OF GAMES. THE BIGGEST OF NAMES. Daniel Nii Tackie Mensah Welbeck.

If you need to rely on a striker in a life or death situation, Danny Welbeck is your guy.
We need to retire the number 23 shirt in honor of the Danny Welbeck.
