Manchester United face competition in Bayern Munich for centre-back

Manchester United continue their hunt for a centre-back in January, but that task just got a lot harder with Bayern Munich on the case…

Manchester United have suffered their fair share of defensive calamities this season. That said, it comes as no surprise that they are consistently being linked with new centre-back options. While the obvious names of Toby Alderweireld and Harry Maguire will be thrown around, as they were in the summer, the Red Devils also have options abroad.

However, amid their pursuit of Nikola Milenkovic, Bayern Munich are reportedly interested in him too. This news comes from Calciomercato, a trusted source in Italy.

In case you didn’t know, Fiorentina has already given United their valuation of the defender. It’s above the kind of money United are willing to pay. The Italian club values the Serb at around £50m.

Bayern Munich’s defenders are beginning to get on a bit, so it’s understandable that they are looking into replacements. If they want to keep up with the revitalised Borussia Dortmund side, then they need to keep up with their big spending.

Manchester United, on the other hand, is a lot tougher to fix. Just ask Jose Mourinho, even the ego-driven manager will tell you how difficult it is. Signing a defender would be a good start, seems as this is where they have the most problems.

It will be interesting to see how this saga progresses. Fiorentina may be a little kinder to Bayern Munich because that’s just the way foreign clubs are with Premier League sides. Although they may not say it, Fiorentina will be expecting Manchester United to cough up more money, because all of the money from television rights goes towards the Premier League.
