Real Madrid have announced that they have parted company with Julen Lopetegui on Monday evening. Twitter has shredded the former Spain coach into bits and pieces!

Real Madrid sacked Julen Lopetegui on Monday evening after they were handed a thumping at Barcelona by a 5-1 margin on Sunday. The Whites’ announcement comes inevitably after a board meeting that lasted for nearly an hour. Santiago Solari will take up first team duties starting from Tuesday until a new manager has been announced.

Antonio Conte and Roberto Martinez are the favorites to take over the helm as the European champions seek to overturn a seven point deficit in La Liga Santander and realistically challenge for the Copa del Rey and UEFA Champions League after a turbulent start to the season. But before that, let us see how Twitter has reacted to the sacking of the former Spain coach.

Well, that’s one really coincidental statistic…

Do you think that Real Madrid were really harsh with their words? Well, Lopetegui was below average since a long time, but the players did not really deliver either! Nonetheless, that’s one extremely harsh and fiery statement from guess who? Florentino Perez!

Imagine being relieved of your duties not once, but twice in a space of less than six months, football can be cruel they say- and rightly so!

And that is how his record at the Real Madrid helm lasts. On a supportive and additional note, Julen Lopetegui has lost the same number of matches as Ernesto Valverde has with Barcelona-6- but the difference? Valverde oversaw 73 matches until Sunday’s, whereas Lopetegui oversaw 14. FOURTEEN.

Big Sam to the rescue? Well, let’s hope not.

In conclusion, the Real Madrid manager goes after a forgettable 4 months in the Spanish capital. He did his bit for Spain but was never a really good option for Real Madrid since day one. Here’s hoping that he succeeds in his new challenge wherever it may be!
