It’s no surprise to see the Spanish giants are sniffing around Mauricio Pochettino’s situation at Tottenham Hotspur again…
Real Madrid hasn’t had the best start to their La Liga campaign. With Julen Lopetegui at the helm, they sit in 9th place. By their standards, this is by no means a good place to be after this amount of time.
There has been a lot of talk over their managerial situation lately. The general consensus was that Lopetegui should be fired, and rightly so, he was.

Now, Santiago Solari has replaced him on a temporary basis, but Real Madrid is still looking to assign the role to somebody worthy of it long-term. And to do that, perhaps unsurprisingly, they have turned their attention back to Tottenham Hotspur’s Mauricio Pochettino.
According to The Sun, he is emerging as a favourite to take the role once more, after links between the two parties broke down last season. It’s fair to say that since the two were last in contact, a lot has changed.
Julen Lopetegui didn’t exactly ruin Real Madrid, but he did leave quite a negative toll on the club during his short tenure. Los Blancos find themselves falling further and further behind their Spanish counterparts, so they need somebody to come in and make a quick impact.
Is Pochettino the type of manager who can come in and instantly turn a club around? No, not by any means. However, what he does offer is security long-term, as he always has the future in mind.
A lot of the young players would benefit from working under Mauricio Pochettino. Just ask the likes of Harry Kane, who have immensely benefited from working under the Argentine.
Real Madrid will feel deflated after being humiliated to a weakened Barcelona side. Even without Lionel Messi, the Catalans managed to destroy Madrid by a scoreline of 5-1, and to be honest, the scoreline was indicative of the gap between the two clubs currently.
There were whispers of Antonio Conte coming into replace Lopetegui. However, according to Marca, talks between both parties have stalled. The Italian has been out of work ever since he left his position with Chelsea in the summer.
I think the best option for Real Madrid is to take their time. There are plenty of options out there, and I’m sure any manager would dive at the chance of managing Real Madrid. It’s important that Florentino Perez and company don’t rush into any rash decisions, which is easy to do in a time of desperation.
