5 players who can replace Romelu Lukaku at Manchester United
Moussa Dembele (Lyon and France)
Moussa Dembele is a graduate of Fulham’s academy. He broke into their first team in 2015, but the Cottagers made the mistake of selling him prematurely to Celtic. He was Brendan Rodgers’ first signing for the Scottish champions upon his arrival from Liverpool.
The 22-year-old Frenchman enjoyed two productive seasons in Scotland, winning every domestic honor available.
He was scouted by several European giants, including Chelsea and Manchester United following his debut season with Celtic, but Lyon managed to sign him on a five-year contract this summer for £19.7m.
Dembele is known for his natural goal-scoring instinct, strength in the air, creativity and link-up play. He’d provide the kind of off-the-ball movement that Manchester United have been craving for since Robin van Persie left the club.
A rather obvious problem with Dembele is his inexperience in the big leagues. With Fulham, he only played in the Championship, and the Scottish Premiership isn’t exactly an elite European league.
He has, however, made a promising start to his Ligue 1 career with 3 goals and 2 assists in 6 appearances, but still has a long way to go. He’s slowly started to establish himself as Lyon’s first choice striker in a team brimming with youth.
He would, however, be one of the cheapest options among the players on this list. The hype surrounding him has surprisingly diminished in the last season or so, probably because of a relatively underwhelming second season with Celtic. He is still one to watch out for.
