Krzysztof Piatek (Genoa and Poland)

Genoa landed an absolute gem when they paid Cracovia just €4m to sign Piatek this summer.

He was fairly well-known in Poland until last season, but not beyond that. Barely five years ago, he was playing in the fourth division of Polish football.

He joined Cracovia from Zagłębie Lubin in the summer of 2016, and spent two seasons with them, scoring 32 goals in 65 appearances.

Having scored only 33 goals last season, among the lowest in the entire division, Genoa roped Piatek in to provide a cutting edge going forward.

He’s taken the entire footballing world by storm this season in the Serie A.

With 9 goals in 9 matches, the 23 year old is only behind Kylian Mbappe in Europe’s top 5 leagues.

He scored in each of his first 7 Serie A appearances, becoming the first player since Gabriel Batistuta in 1994/95 to do so.

Piatek introduced himself to the Italians in style, scoring all 4 goals in a thumping 4-0 win over Lecce in the Coppa Italia. He scored 5 goals in his first 4 Serie A appearances, which made him the first player since Andriy Shevchenko in 1999 to achieve that particular distinction.

Unsurprisingly, his incredible form has led to transfer rumors linking him away from Italy, having arrived barely 5 months ago. Maurizio Sarri is reportedly viewing him as an option to replace the misfiring Alvaro Morata, and Chelsea could make a move for him in January.

Viewed by many as the successor to Robert Lewandowski in the Polish national team, he’s known for his positioning, movement and aerial ability.

His excellent start to the season earned him a call-up to the national team. He earned his second cap for Poland in a UEFA Nations League match against Portugal, scoring the opener in a 3-2 defeat.
