5 things Tottenham learned in their 3-1 victory at West Ham
1. Juan Foyth has a ton of talent
Foyth is the single player on the Tottenham squad who raised his stock the most in the victory at West Ham. He didn’t play a perfect match, but some of his last-ditch challenges simply took your breath away. He’s a player with an incredible amount of self-belief given his age and inexperience.
It’s hard not to see a lot of John Stones when you watch Foyth play. We mean that as both a compliment and criticism. Remember, when Stones was at Everton many people thought he took too many risks to ever become a top-class centre back. It’s funny how no one discusses that after Guardiola’s gotten a chance to manage him.
Tottenham’s young Argentine defender took plenty of his own forays up the pitch with the ball at his feet on Wednesday. In this match, most of them helped push his attack forward. He probably was more adventurous than Pochettino would like, but then again we’re confident the manager likes a player with Foyth’s level of confidence.
On the defensive end of the pitch he was pretty brilliant for the entire match. He picked up his game as the match went along. That happened to coincide with West Ham’s decision to bring their best attackers onto the pitch. The fact that Foyth played his best football against the likes of Marko Arnautovic bodes well for his future at Spurs.
It will be a challenge for Pochettino to find more playing time for Foyth in the near future, but the youngster clearly deserves it. He and Sanchez could form a brilliant Premier League partnership in time.
