Mixed fortunes – October 29 – 31

The month concluded with some mixed fortunes. All the talk before the Man City game was about Wembley’s post NFL moonscape surface, but ironically it was a route one long ball that undid Spurs.

Tottenham had their fair share of chances to draw level – the best of which fell to Erik Lamela. The Argentine may have blamed a couple of divots Dele Alli’s pass met en route as his shot sailed over the bar along with any chance of sharing the points.

Just two days later Spurs travelled to West Ham with an almost completely changed starting XI.  On his 150th appearance for the club, Heung-min Son was the talisman scoring a brace. There were plenty of positives for Poch to take such as fine performances from his compatriot Juan Foyth.

A good month for…

It was a good month for Moussa Sissoko. OK, he’s not going to be challenging for October’s Player of the Month, but it was certainly his best in Lilywhite.

The Frenchman whipped a delightful ball onto Lamela’s head in the only goal of the game against West Ham and impressed fans with endeavour and industry against City. It is unlikely he will get many starts as Christian Eriksen and Dele Alli return to fitness but he has proven he deserves to be a squad player.

Harry Winks is also back to about the level he was at before his injury woes began last season. Fans will be hoping the young lion can kick on and add a much-needed spark to the centre of Tottenham’s midfield.

A bad month for…

Birthday wishes for Glenn Hoddle quickly turned to messages of grave concern last Saturday after the newly turned 61-year-old was rushed to hospital. Luckily, Glenn pulled through and his family thanked the club and fans for their ‘overwhelming’ support for one of Tottenham’s most loved ever players.

It wasn’t a great month for Daniel Levy either. The stadium delays will continue until at least 2019 as costs continue to mount; while, Poch vented frustrations and claimed it’s the most unhappy he’s been during in his five year tenure at the club. Worryingly, the manager’s comments were simultaneous with Real Madrid sacking of Julen Loptegui – giving the chairman another unwanted headache.
