Lucas Piazon could finally be leaving the Chelsea ‘loan army’
By Matt English
A ridiculous amount of loan time looks to be coming to an end for one Chelsea castaway
Big clubs in the world of football love to send players out on loan. It allows them to own the player while allowing them to get playing time at a lesser club.
This practice is frowned upon by some fans of the game, especially when the player in question never has a chance to prove himself at the parent club. This is the exact situation that Lucas Piazon is in at Chelsea.

Piazon has been on loan to five different clubs since joining the Blues back in 2012. A fruitful spell at Vitesse looked to be Piazon’s ticket to the Chelsea first team. Unfortunately for Piazon, Chelsea also signed Willian, Andre Schurrle, and Mohammed Salah that season, forcing another loan of Piazon the following season.
Unsuccessful loans with Eintracht Frankfurt and Reading damaged Piazon’s overall stock at the club, but he was seemingly revived during his time at Fulham. Piazon had plenty of game time while at Fulham, fighting with the club all the way up to the Championship Playoff Final.
As his career goes, though, Piazon did not play a single minute against Aston Villa in the final as Fulham won the match 1-0, securing their place in the Premier League this season. The lack of involvement could come to an end, however, as Piazon is being targeted by a notable Brazilian club.
Currently, Lucas Piazon is playing with the Chelsea u23 team. Any team that can offer him first-team football will be an upgrade, and Corinthians could be just that club.
The club plays in the Serie A of Brazil’s top league, sitting mid-table. The addition of Piazon could lift the club a bit towards the end of the season, but his involvement would be felt more during the next campaign.
Goal is reporting that Corinthians is trying to sign the Brazilian for a reduced price due to his contract running out soon, but it is unclear whether or not either the player or the club want the move to happen.
At a time in Lucas Piazon’s career where he should clearly be playing regular first-team football, this move is a no-brainer. Getting out of the continuous loan loop at Chelsea could be the key to giving him the confidence he needs to revive his career.
From Chelsea’s perspective, letting Piazon go should not cause much stir within the club. He has played just a single first-team match for the club since he joined, so they would hardly notice his absence. With all signs pointing to a good move, Piazon needs to voice his opinion on this matter to further his career.
Do you think Chelsea should let Piazon go to Corinthians?
