Barcelona suffered a 4-3 defeat against Real Betis after a completely lacklustre display at the Camp Nou in their La Liga clash on Sunday.

Barcelona suffered their second La Liga Santander defeat of the season when they were humbled by Real Betis in the Camp Nou by a 4-3 margin. It was an absolute horror show from the Catalans’ that shipped in four league goals against a bottom half team for the first time since 2003 on their own patch. Another record that Barcelona did not want to break is of seeing their 42 matches unbeaten league run at the Camp Nou come to an end.

Junior Firpo and Joaquin Arte scored first-half goals for Quique Setien’s men to send them into the break with a 2-0 advantage. Barcelona’s comeback seemed to have started well after Messi dispatched a penalty for them. But Giovani Lo Celso scored right through Marc Andre Ter Stegen to make it 3-1. There was still life in Barcelona who made it 3-2 via Arturo Vidal. However, Ivan Rakitic’s red card was the final dagger in the Barcelona hearts as Betis put the game to bed through Sergio Canales. Lionel Messi did make it 4-3 in stoppage time, but it was too late.

Goalkeeper- Marc Andre Ter Stegen- 3.5/10

Marc Andre Ter Stegen was the lead figure in Barcelona’s abysmal display in front of their own fans. The 26-year-old shot stopper let in no less than four goals on Sunday, one of which was right through his palms by Giovani Lo Celso. Had Ter Stegen stopped that, the match’s climax could have been different and Barcelona may have had a point by the end of it. Nonetheless, no excuses can be made from it and the international break is the correct time to bounce back.
