Barcelona’s player ratings vs Betis: Messi’s efforts are wasted
Left Back- Jordi Alba- 4.5/10
Another one of Barcelona’s horrible performances in what turned out to be a disaster of a result was Jordi Alba. The 30-year-old messed it up at the worst possible time, right under Luis Enrique’s eyes in the Nou Camp. He would be hoping that Sunday’s performance does not affect his national team selection though he is called up. Alba was caught out of position numerous times and was massively responsible for Betis’ third goal.
Centre Back- Clement Lenglet- 5/10
The Frenchman was probably Barcelona’s best performer in the defensive unit. Clement Lenglet managed to keep Joaquin Arte at bay in the second half thereby preventing him from causing further damage, but the 37-year-old already played his part by getting the visitors’ second goal in the first half. Clement Lenglet also missed a virtual sitter through a set piece opportunity by smashing the ball right at Pau Lopez.
Centre Back- Gerard Pique- 4.5/10
Gerard Pique was horrible in Barcelona’s defeat and has failed to maintain consistency in matches this season. The 30-year-old had a day to forget after being shredded by Andres Guardado at every possible occasion. Pique did track back and make a notable tackle in the first half, but that was his only noteworthy action. The central defender has to improve before Umtiti returns or he might end up losing his starting berth.
Right Back- Sergi Roberto- 4/10
To be honest, had Nelson Semedo started this match, Barcelona could have pulled out a different result from the bag because Sergi Roberto was just awful over the course of the match. The 26-year-old did nothing to contribute to the team whilst attacking or defending and was given an absolutely tough match by Junior Firpo. Roberto’s rating could have been worse, but his mentality of not giving up throughout the match did deserve respect.
