‘Financial fair play’ rules may be in favour of Real Madrid for once.

Financial fair play is the marmite of football. You either love it or you hate it. Real Madrid fans may not be too keen on it, however, the recent news may sway them in favour of the rules.

According to AS, should Paris Saint-Germain need to sell players in order to suit the rules, then Real Madrid will benefit. It’s rumoured Los Blancos will pursue either Neymar or Kylian Mbappe should things go their way.

More from Real Madrid

Madrid has been linked with these two for a long time now, so it feels like any second will do. Obviously, I don’t need to justify why the Spanish capital is interested in these two stars. All you need to do is watch them and you’ll see.

In many ways, PSG is blessed to home these two upcoming stars. Both of them are contenders to become the best player in the world once Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo leave the game. Neymar has experience of playing with FC Barcelona, so he will be the sweetest option of the two from a rivalry standpoint.

Mbappe’s quick rise didn’t come by chance. He monitored his heroes, such as Thierry Henry growing up and emulated their style. AS Monaco is where he claimed his fame, however, PSG gave him the tools necessary to go out and win the World Cup for their country at such a young age.

Real Madrid is in the process of rebuilding. Santiago Solari is doing well on this front to take over from Julen Lopetegui, so things are looking positive for the club right now. They have some ground to catch up on in La Liga, but they have the means necessary to do so.

Their target for the season will undeniably be the Champions League. This is similar to Paris Saint-Germain, although it’s been a long-time target for them. In my opinion, Mbappe will have a much better chance of winning the Champions League with Madrid. That said, you could say it won’t be as coveted for Neymar as the Brazilian already won the competition with Barcelona.

All of this in mind, it will be interesting to see how this saga pans out. Given their spending record, it always only seems like a matter of time before PSG are busted for breaching the financial fair play rules.
