Chelsea are doing well and are early contenders for the Premier League. But with over half the season still to go, they need to consistently score goals.

For the first time since the Premier League’s introduction, there remain three unbeaten teams at the end of 12 game weeks. Expectedly, it is defending champions Manchester City who top the table with 32 points. Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool is next with 30 and Chelsea are closely following as well with 28 points.

While Sarri-ball is excelling at the Stamford Bridge, there has been a shortage of goals in some matches. Eden Hazard is the only consistent player taking the encumbrance of finding the back of the net. Alvaro Morata has shined in the recent weeks, but maintaining his form for a long time is something that the former Real Madrid striker has always struggled with.

On the other hand, Olivier Giroud is not helping in front of goal to be candid enough. The former Arsenal striker links up well with Eden Hazard and is one of the main reasons for the Belgium international’s goal scoring form. However, Giroud fails to perform his primary duty of scoring the goals.

Chelsea legend Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink highlighted the Blues’ need for a goal scoring player as well. There has to be somebody who can score on a consistent basis and ease the pressure off Eden Hazard’s shoulders.

Speaking to Sky Sports News, Hasselbaink said:

"“I think every club that is going to challenge for the Premier League needs three strikers. For me they [Chelsea] still have a gap to close on Man City, but they are improving and if they can keep on improving they can hopefully catch them.”"

The 46-year-old perfectly summed up Chelsea’s problems. The backline is well-organized and keeping the goals out was never really a problem for the Blues in the past. It looks like Ross Barkley, Mateo Kovacic and Jorginho have all been the collective answer to the midfielder worries as well.

The only unit which needs addressing is the one up top. The west Londoners can exercise two options- the first and sensible one is to call up Michy Batshuayi from his loan spell at Valencia. While the 25-year-old may not be doing very well in Spain, his Belgium form suggests that he is ready to play as a first choice striker at the Bridge.

The second and a slightly tedious one is to sign Bournemouth’s Callum Wilson. The 26-year-old has been enjoying life with the Cherries since the start of the season. Wilson also made his England debut against the US last week and scored a goal in front of the Wembley crowd. That said, his age is another positive factor for Chelsea so they could sign him up in January itself.
