Manchester United decide on a shocking David de Gea replacement
By Kian Long
It’s never easy to replace David de Gea, but I don’t think anybody expected this from Manchester United.
Manchester United are resilient. It’s a trait they’ve needed to adopt under Jose Mourinho. Whenever they’ve been asked by the press, it’s always the same “he’s not going anywhere” narrative. But now, the Red Devils are looming towards accepting their fate with David de Gea.
Hold your horses, nothing is set-in-stone yet. But according to The Sun, should the Spanish goalkeeper refuse to sign a contract extension with United, then they will pursue a move for Jordan Pickford.
It’s the right decision.

Pickford is probably the best option for United right now. He’s young and ready to embark on a new, more challenging trajectory. Playing for Everton and Sunderland, he’s picked up a distinct set of values. Both of these clubs pride themselves on union (well, Sunderland used to).
He could bring these values to Manchester United, and boy do they need them. Everything seems to be going pear-shaped for Mourinho’s men right now, so they need a burst of fresh enthusiasm.
Pickford underwent a seriously impressive World Cup campaign in Russia. It was this campaign which won the hearts of many, so it was a surprise to see him remain at Everton. England defied all odds by finishing fourth in the competition, Pickford being very much a key figurehead to their journey.

One of the things which strikes me the most about Pickford is his distribution. Once he has the ball at his disposal, you better believe he’s going to pick out the striker with a fine ball. In many ways, he’s like the English Pirlo except he wears gloves and doesn’t have the most eloquent accent in the world.
Pickford has been linked with Bayern Munich in the past. This is quite the feat, considering he was dubbed to be Manuel Neyer’s successor. Obviously, nothing materialised so these claims could be considered as too out there. But still, it says a lot that Bayern was even interested.
Do you think Manchester United will persuade David de Gea to stay?
