Barcelona have added problems if they want to sell Ousmane Dembele
Barcelona will have a handful of issues to deal with if they decide to sell Ousmane Dembele to anybody before his contract ends in June 2022.
Barcelona made some panic signings in the summer transfer window of 2017 after Neymar departed for Paris Saint-Germain and had to pay through their nose. The Catalans ended up signing Ousmane Dembele from Borussia Dortmund for a fee of 105 million euros with add-ons of a supposed 40 million.

However, MARCA has now reported that Barcelona will have to pay Borussia Dortmund the 40 million euros as a guarantee if they sell the France international precipitously against his opening contract that is valid until June 30, 2022. While nobody at the club denied the rumors, a spokesperson said:
“The scenario of a possible sale is not being contemplated at this moment.”
Ousmane Dembele’s future at the Camp Nou has been speculated of late with Arsenal and Liverpool being thought as customers to the 21-year-old’s services. What is clear is the fact that nobody are doubting Ousmane Dembele’s talent at the club, but his conduct has not gone down well in the eyes of the club’s senior figures.
Barcelona’s manager Ernesto Valverde opted with dropping the World Cup winner for the team’s 3-4 loss against Real Betis before the international break because of his failure in turning up for the training sessions prior to the match. The winger did not turn up due to gastroenteritis which was a rational enough reason to miss training, however, he did not inform anybody at the club and that’s what alienated the Barcelona squad and coach.
Luis Suarez and Gerard Pique also spoke about how Ousmane Dembele needs to get his act together and respect the job of being a football. The defender also said that playing football is a 24/7 job and that a professional should manage his lifestyle as per that.
Barcelona head to the Wanda Metropolitano to face Atletico Madrid on Saturday evening and it remains to be seen whether the 21-year-old will play the match. There remains room for Dembele though given that there has been no update on Philippe Coutinho’s injury and Ivan Rakitic has been suspended.
Is potentially selling Dembele a prudent decision for Barcelona given that they will have to pay 40 million euros to Borussia Dortmund?
