CM: Allan, Napoli

I didn’t think it was possible for Napoli not to miss Jorginho this season, but Allan’s performance has almost made Jorginho’s departure an afterthought. He has done it all for Napoli this season. His 4.3 tackles and 1.2 interceptions per match have made it extremely difficult for opposing teams to build their attack. His defensive performance has been reminiscent of N’Golo Kante’s 2015-16 season that should have earned him the Premier League Player of the Year for that season. The fact that he has made 1.3 key passes per match and assisted 2 goals is really just the icing on the cake for Allan’s season. If Napoli manages to finally manages to dethrone Juventus this season it will be because of Allan’s dominance.

CM: Marcelo Brozovic, Inter Milan

Marcelo Brozovic has been a key part to Inter Milan’s turnaround. He scored Inter’s goal that won their match against Sampdoria in a match where both teams had goals taken away by VAR. The win was the first of 7 in a row for Inter, including 6 that Brozovic appeared in. He also scored 3 matches later against Lazio in an impressive win. He has also made 3.3 tackles and 1.4 interceptions, which has helped Inter’s defense hold their opponents to 2 goals in those 6 matches. Even with the recent arrival of Radja Nainggolan it seems like Brozovic is the most important midfielder at Inter.

CM: Lucas Leiva, Lazio

He has only played 8 of Lazio’s 13 Serie A matches so far this season, but he has been a nuisance in the midfield for Lazio in those matches. Last season Lazio was the 10th best defense in Serie A, but they have worked their up to a tie for 4th so far this season. Leiva’s 4.3 tackles and 2.3 interceptions per appearance have played a sizable part in that improvement. He has also averaged 1.8 key passes per match, but hasn’t been able to create the final product with a goal or an assist this season.  Sergej Milinkovic-Savic is the big name in this midfield, but Lucas Leiva has been its best player so far this season.
