Milan Skriniar of Inter Milan is linked with a move to Manchester United, however, the Red Devils will face competition in Chelsea.

Manchester United are in dire need of improvements. Although they’ve not been too bad in recent weeks, throughout the season they have shown many frailties. Jose Mourinho will look at the January transfer window as a chance to strengthen.

There is much debate over which department of the pitch United must strengthen. Their attack hasn’t been the best, but the general consensus is that the defence is in most need of improvements. Obviously, United tried to sign a defender in the summer, but nothing materialised. Nothing which is actually relevant anyway, sorry Dalot.

Signing a defender still won’t be easy.

More from Manchester United

It comes as no surprise that The Sun reports there will be complications. It’s always the case when a Premier League side eyes a player abroad. The outlet report that Chelsea have joined the race for Milan Skriniar, Inter Milan’s 23-year-old defender.

Skriniar is widely regarded among the best defenders in the world and for good reason. It’s a title which comes with immense responsibility, but the Slovakia international is more than capable of defending. This season he has been in average form for Internazionale, but many defenders across the globe would still kill for his form.

Chelsea’s interest makes no sense.

Chelsea isn’t in dire need of centre-backs, so this news is rather surprising. They have David Luiz, Antonio Rudiger and of course Andreas Christensen all looking to do a stint at the back, all of which are able. The latter is one of the youngsters at Chelsea who should be looking to develop, so the arrival of Skriniar wouldn’t help with that.

In my opinion, Chelsea won’t go all out to sign Skriniar. Their main priority will be to strengthen their attack because it looks like Willian could be set to leave. They are linked with a move for Christian Pulisic, who would be the much more beneficial option of the two.
