Real Madrid’s player ratings vs Eibar: A catastrophe in the Basque County
Defensive Midfielder- Toni Kroos- 6/10
As expected, Toni Kroos played at defensive midfield in Casemiro’s absence. The former Bayern Munich midfielder did not go in an advanced position in order to cover up the impeded position and that did take a toll on Real Madrid’s creativity. Kroos could not link up with Marcelo and Asensio like he usually does. He did not even take shots on goal in what was an uncomfortable night for the Germany international.
Right Midfielder- Luka Modric- 6.5/10
Luka Modric played a fairly average match, but the Croatia international’s Ballon d’Or contention led to him being the scapegoat as he was in the last few Real Madrid matches. The former Spurs midfielder was surely not at his best, but he was not below average either.
In fact, such a performance from Luka Modric has been enough at times for Real Madrid but this time Eibar came strong. All eyes will be on Luka as he will certainly start in Rome on Tuesday and look to answer the criticism. It would have been great if Modric was rested in the Eibar match.
Left Midfielder- Dani Ceballos- 6/10
Dani Ceballos was tasked with pulling the strings when Santiago Solari realized that the Croatian Modric was having a hard day in the office. The former Real Betis midfielder fell back to create plays and also put forth a shift in the defensive part of things.
However, Eibar realized that Dani Ceballos would be the threat and targeted him. Ceballos drew some fouls and tried supplying the attacking passes, but he was surrounded by the opposition all around.
