Real Madrid sealed top spot in Group G with a hard-fought victory in Rome on Tuesday night where every player did a good job.

Real Madrid overcame a resolute AS Roma side with a 2-0 win at the Stadio Olimpico on Tuesday thanks to a solid second half display and goals from Gareth Bale and Lucas Vazquez after half time. The Whites and the Romans had already managed to seal qualification into the last 16 of the competition after CSKA Moscow lost to Viktoria Plzen earlier in the evening. However, the win for Real Madrid meant that they will now top group G.

The first half was a slightly evenly matched aware and both the teams had their chances to open the scoring. However, failure in converting them meant that the score at half time was 0-0 and the visitors could use their experience in dominating the hosts in the second period of the match and thereby go on to register a 2-0 success.

Santiago Solari got his fifth win in the sixth match in charge of Real Madrid and also kept his 100% record running in the UEFA Champions League. Incidentally, Zinedine Zidane’s treble of UEFA Champions League victories began with a 2-0 win at Rome back in February 2016, so the new manager would be hoping that similar fate meets him at the end of a few years.

Let us take a look at how every Real Madrid player fared.

Goalkeeper- Thibaut Courtois- 7/10

Thibaut Courtois was in desperate need of a clean sheet after spilling eight goals past him over the last two matches for club and country. The former Chelsea shot stopper had a relatively comfortable night, but he did have to make a few saves which he handled extremely well from Kolarov and Cengiz Under. For once, the Belgian was also quick with releasing the ball from the back and helping in the counter attacks.
