RB: Kieran Trippier – 7

It was World Cup Kieran Trippier last night rather than walking vulnerability Premier League Kieran Trippier. To be fair, the full back found more uninhabited space on the right flank than a lone trekker in the Australian outback.

Toby Alderweireld found him time and time again in genuinely threatening positions and remarkably the visitors never even really attempted to thwart the Belgian’s cross field balls.

His final product may not have been as devastating as it can but he did tee up Heung-min Son after just three minutes and his high press was the catalyst for the Korean’s goal.

Overall, he looked fresh after his time out on the treatment table and will be hoping his late injury is nothing serious.

LB: Danny Rose – 6

Danny was OK in his return to the side. He didn’t make any major gaffes but looked a little clumsy at times which can be expected due to the lack of playing time recently.

He tried to get forward but didn’t have much luck and it’s hard to not make him a victim of the high standards he set a couple of seasons ago.

CB: Juan Foyth – 7

It was a solid evening for Foyth and probably his first outing this season when he didn’t end as either game’s hero or zero. The young Argentine was much closer to the former and marshalled Manolo Gabbiadini well all night, making a few important interceptions along the way.

He did get dispossessed in the 24th minute after dwelling on the ball which was rather frustrating as Spurs fans saw how an elite side will punish such errors last weekend.

CB: Toby Alderweireld – 7.5

Tottenham fans were delighted to see Toby’s name back in the starting eleven and his class was evident from the start. As already mentioned, he repeatedly pinged balls out to Trippier and its baffling Southampton didn’t prepare for its former player’s obvious threat.

Performances like this will have the Belgian’s long list of suitors salivating over potentially acquiring his services in the coming transfer window.
