LB: Mattia De Sciglio 7/10

No, he’s not Alex Sandro, but Mattia De Sciglio once again gave an admirable defensive effort in Sandro’s absence. He actually managed to get forward a little bit more than usual in tis match, but still wasn’t quite able to create anything noteworthy for Juve. However, he did the only thing Juve really needed from him in this match. He defended well and kept Matteo Politano and Ivan Perisic from ever becoming too much of an issue. It seems like Juve can count on De Sciglio when they need him even if it’s in a big game.

CB: Leonardo Bonucci 6.5/10

Usually, when Bonucci gets a grade this low it’s because he made a big mistake, but this time around it’s actually because he wasn’t all that noticeable against Inter. His passing wasn’t as sharp as usual (an issue that plagued the team as a whole) and was completely overshadowed by the rest of the defense. It wasn’t a bad match for Bonucci, which is an improvement over the last big Serie A game he played, but it just wasn’t a particularly good one either. We should just be glad it wasn’t a repeat of the Napoli match.

CB: Giorgio Chiellini 8.5/10

This match was a great reminder of why Giorgio Chiellini will be remembered long after he leaves the sport. He was simply outstanding in the match, especially once Juve was defending their lead. He made a few very important interceptions over the course of the match as Juve’s last line of defense. Most importantly, he never let Mauro Icardi get close to scoring at any point in the match. The Juve captain was at his absolute best against Inter.

RB: Joao Cancelo 8.5/10

I think it’s time to say this without any qualifiers. Joao Cancelo is the best fullback in Serie A. Over the course of the match he locked down both sides of the field defensively and was Juve’s best wing on top of it. His beautiful cross set up the only goal of the match and it was just one of the many dangerous crosses he sent in throughout the match. Cancelo stepped in a big way on the big stage. I’m sure Inter missed him on Friday.
