Juventus player ratings vs Inter Milan: Mandzukic delivers Derby d’Italia win
By John Vaccaro
Douglas Costa 6.5/10
I’ve felt for a few matches now that if Juve is going to stick with the 4-3-3 then Douglas Costa should be starting over Dybala on the wing. He wasn’t able to make a huge impact in this match, but his one run on the breakaway looked more dangerous than anything Dybala did throughout the match. It was just another cameo appearance with Juve holding a lead and hopefully it’s the last one for Costa. He should get the start on Wednesday.
Emre Can 6/10

Emre Can came on in relief of Miralem Pjanic in the 81st minute and wasn’t asked to do very much. Really the only takeaway from his 14 minutes on the field was that it was nice to see him able to get back out there after having to miss nearly 2 months because of thyroid surgery. He’ll need a few more matches to be ready for a full 90 again, but this was a good start.
Manager: Massimiliano Allegri 9/10
Massimiliano Allegri saw his side earn a victory in the Derby d’Italia once again, but the performance wasn’t without its flaws. He gave Dybala another start on the wing, which we’ve seen all season simply doesn’t work. He also returned Juve to their defensive shell once they had secured the lead. This has been an issue all season and has let teams back into matches on multiple occasions. However, he did some other things right here. Having Cancelo and De Sciglio switch sides during the match to find the best configuration of the defense ended up helping to deliver the winning goal. He also made a bold call starting Bentancur. Over the course of 24 hours Bentancur went from doubtful that he’d play to playing a full 90, which allowed Juve to stick with the 4-3-3.
At the end of the day, Juve won against the league’s 3rd best team and that will get any manager an A.
