Tottenham player ratings vs Leicester City: Dele dazzles
AM: Dele Alli – 9
Let’s not beat around the bush: Dele Alli was heads and shoulders above everyone else on the field. It was a night of sublime first touches, punctuated between nutmegs, and deft passing.
He constantly peeled away from Leicester’s back line and seemed have an extra few seconds on the ball due to his superior levels of composure.
It was Dele’s 50th goal for Spurs and eerily reminiscent of his first which was scored on the very same turf against the very same keeper. However, he is rather lucky VAR wasn’t in place as it would have been chalked off otherwise.
Dele should be buzzing like a second-hand fridge for Tuesday night’s clash at Camp Nou.
AM: Heung-Min Son – 8
The onus was on Son to light up the King Power in Harry’s absence. For the majority of the first period he endangered a few low-lying pigeons rather than Leicester’s goal but his class finally shone through right at the death.
His superb strike couldn’t have come at a more opportune moment and the delight from the Spurs bench was palpable. As Owen Hargreaves pointed out at halftime, the Korean may well be the best finisher in the league on his weaker foot.
In the second half he set up Dele to put the game to bed. Poch was relying on Sonny last night and he certainly delivered to keep Tottenham’s title challenge alive.
AM: Lucas Moura – 6
Lucas was probably one of the players that profited from rotation. As usual his play was full of endeavour but lacked game defining moments.
He looked a bit more dangerous as space opened up later on and was involved in Spurs’ second. The Brazilian was replaced by Eriksen in the 67th.
Sub: Christian Eriksen – 5
Nothing Eriksen tried really came off. The game was already won though and his real test will come against Barcelona.
Sub: Harry Kane – 5.5
Many were surprised to see Harry introduced at all, but he has an obsession with scoring and has seven in his last three against The Foxes.
In the end, he never found any real openings but at least he is fresh for the trip to Camp Nou.
Sub: Kyle Walker-Peters – 6
In limited minutes, Walker-Peters did more to impress than the man he replaced. His quick feet got Gray booked before he closed down the same player with a crucial block.
After the game, Poch hinted the full back will start the biggest game of his career on Tuesday night.
