Mesut Ozil hasn’t been hitting it with Arsenal lately.

When it comes to ridiculed players, Mesut Ozil is one of the first to spring to mind. Ever since arriving at Arsenal, the English press has held a vendetta against him. This quickly transcended towards the fans. Obviously, all this negative energy is bound to have an impact, regardless of how you feel about Ozil.

That said, it comes as no surprise that this season hasn’t been fruitful for him so far. He’s had good performances against the likes of Leicester but he hasn’t been consistent enough. That’s why, according to the Daily Mail, Arsenal could sell him in January for just £25m.

Unai Emery should be wary of selling him

More from Arsenal FC

One thing is for certain, Emery isn’t a fan of Ozil. However, that doesn’t mean Arsenal should be rash in selling for just £25m. In today’s market, that is a minuscule fee, especially considering he has until 2021 on his contract. Surely teams would be willing to pay more than £25m for his signature, surely.

That being said, Ozil does age at 30 years old which means he’s reaching a professional footballer’s danger zone. It’s by no means old but he is edging towards the final stages of his career.

Mesut Ozil would be a delight for any team

Ozil is a truly class player, there’s no denying it. I could easily pin the cliches on him – “he goes missing in big games”, “he always has a sick note”, etc. But the truth remains, he is one of the most talented players in the world on his day, he just needs to add more consistency to his game.

Ozil is an attacking midfielder who likes to play down the centre. However, he is able to play on either wing, something he has had to do under Unai Emery. He looks best with the ball at his feet, orchestrating how his team attacks. Mostly known for his incredible assist tally, his dictation of play shouldn’t go overlooked. When he is driving forward with the ball, it’s like flicking a switch for the whole team to do the same.

Under the right management, Ozil could truly flourish. This could even be the case under Unai Emery given time but I guess he’ll have to see how things pan out. One thing’s for sure, should Arsenal sell Ozil, then it will be the end of a fine era.

Do you think Arsenal will sell Mesut Ozil?
