LB: Mattia De Sciglio 6/10

Mattia De Sciglio got the start against Young Boys because Massimiliano Allegri seemingly believed the Swiss team wouldn’t be much of a threat. De Sciglio didn’t offer much at all in this match and the absence of Joao Cancelo’ attacking abilities was apparent from the start of the match. He didn’t make any errors, but Juve needed more from their fullbacks in this match and he wasn’t able to provide it.

CB: Leonardo Bonucci 6/10

Leonardo Bonucci simply can’t lead this Juve defense at this point in his career. It seems that whenever Juventus tries to start him without Giorgio Chiellini it’s a mess. That’s especially true when he starts without both Chiellini and Medhi Benatia. This match was no different as lost track of Christian Fassnacht who got free for a free header in the second half and then he got absolutely torched by Guillame Horau on the breakaway for the match’s second goal. He repeatedly ventured forward to help the attack, leaving Daniele Rugani by himself to hold off counter attacks, but he wasn’t actually any help to the attack. Maybe I’m alone on this one, but I think it’s time for Medhi Benatia to get a crack at the starting job.

CB: Daniele Rugani 6.5/10

Maybe there has been a good reason all along why Daniele Rugani hasn’t been able to get himself some playing time. He really hasn’t had a standout performance yet for Juve this season and on Wednesday he didn’t look like somebody would want starting in the future. He was able to make 2 tackles and 2 interceptions in the match, but those were really just meaningless numbers. With Rugani in the middle of the defense Juve looked vulnerable. It could be due to a lack of form because of his infrequent appearances, but matches like today make it tough to figure out why Juve didn’t just sell him to Chelsea when they had the chance. On average he’s starting once a month, so maybe he’ll get his issues figured out by January.

RB: Juan Cuadrado Inc.

It’s tough to give Juan Cuadrado a grade based on 22 minutes, especially when he was injured for about the last 5 of those. He was likely only given the start for the match because Joao Cancelo was in the stands for the day. Cuadrado never got a chance to settle into this match and as such he won’t be given a grade. Hopefully the injury that caused him to leave the match early isn’t anything too serious.
