CM: Miralem Pjanic 6/10

These are supposed to be the matches where having Miralem Pjanic in the midfield makes the difference for Juve. Instead we got another lackluster attempt to break down a defensive team that lacked any real creativity. I think it’s time for Pjanic to be given free kick responsibilities again as a couple of well delivered free kicks might be what it takes for him to break out of this slump. It’s not Juve’s set piece deliveries could get much worse anyway as the team has yet to score from a direct free kick and has only scored one goal from an indirect free kick delivery. Maybe Pjanic  is as tired of watching Ronaldo and Bernardeschi shoot straight into the wall as the rest of us are. Something needs to change because the version of Pjanic we saw against Young Boys was disappointing to watch.

CM: Rodrigo Bentancur 7/10

Even in a poor match for Juventus, Rodrigo Bentancur played well yet again. His pass to Ronaldo set Cristiano up for his second chance early in the match. There wasn’t much else of note in Bentancur’s performance, but he put forth solid effort, tied for the team leads in both tackles and interceptions, and passed the ball well throughout the match. He’s had better matches this season, but considering the overall effort of the squad I’ll consider this another good day for Bentancur.

CM: Federico Bernardeschi 7.5/10

This was a return of the Federico Bernardeschi we saw early in the season. He couldn’t help but find himself in space throughout the match, sending in an impressive 6 accurate crosses and 11 crosses total. In a match where a lot of Juve’s squad didn’t seem to give their best effort, Bernardeschi looked like somebody who was ready to fight for a starting spot. He also opened up more possibilities for himself for the future because of how well he played as a central midfielder. He surely left the match wishing he could’ve gotten Juve an equalizer, but he did everything he could to try to make it happen. Hopefully Allegri was paying attending because these are the types of performances that should earn players more time.
