Juventus player ratings vs Young Boys: Juve wins Group H in spite of embarrassing loss
By John Vaccaro
LW: Cristiano Ronaldo 6.5/10
Cristiano Ronaldo struggled for the second match in a row, but this time around it was much more surprising. Inter Milan is supposed to be a tough defense to score against, but the match against Young Boys was supposed to be the type of match where Ronaldo would thrive. He was unable to finish the two best chances he had with one going wide and the other being squandered by a poor touch. He also didn’t create much of note for his teammates until late in the match.
He did play a perfect ball to Dybala for his strike that made the score 2-1. His next action negated that though as he unnecessarily tried to get a touch on Dybala’s second strike and cost Dybala the equalizing goal because of it when he was called offside. Ronaldo gets his first taste of Derby della Mole on Saturday and hopefully he can get himself back on track in that match.
ST: Mario Mandzukic 7/10
The effort was there once again for Mandzukic, but unfortunately the results weren’t. He managed to turn effort into one header on goal, but it didn’t have the power or the placement to score (and was probably preceded by a foul). He played hard throughout the match, but Mandzukic needs good service to be effective and there was unfortunately a lack of that from Juve in this match. It was a pretty average day for Mandzukic and he’ll be hoping for something better this weekend.
RW: Douglas Costa 8/10
If there was ever a match that depicted why Douglas Costa should be the clear choice to start on the right wing it was the match against Young Boys. On a day when most of the team had little to offer Costa still looked great. His pace created openings for both himself and his teammates, although his best chance was a tough angle and the chance he created on the counter was squandered by a poor touch from Ronaldo.
Both Costa and Bernardeschi are fighting for playing time right now and it showed in their efforts in this match. They seemed to be two of the only players that truly cared about the outcome of the match as they relentlessly worked to find space to cross from. Costa wasn’t able to create a goal in this match, but he showed once again how big of a mistake it is to leave him out of the lineup every week.
