Olivier Giroud and Alvaro Morata need an extra kick of motivation.
Maurizio Sarri isn’t completely satisfied with his attack, despite his front line serving him well. The Chelsea boss is never satisfied until things are perfect, it’s why he’s widely recognised as one of the best managers in the world. Chelsea sits fourth in the Premier League table which is an achievement but it’s still not up to Sarri’s standards.
All of this in mind, it makes sense for Chelsea to consider strengthening in January. They have to in order to keep up with their competitors. Already having two capable strikers, Chelsea is confident they will add a third in Callum Wilson in January, according to Express.
Chasing a striker makes sense for Chelsea

It’s not clear whether or not Morata or Giroud will be shipped off but having three strikers is not bad by any means. As Chelsea progress in the Europa League, the variety should help them when it comes to rotating teams around. Should Sarri wish to do that, of course.
Callum Wilson is much more of a versatile striker. This is a trait in which he’s had to adopt being the main man for Bournemouth. He is very good on not just a goal scoring front, but also a creative front. Most importantly though, he has the ability to score from a variety of different situations, some of which he makes himself.
Signing Callum Wilson will only fuel Morata and Giroud to achieve more because game time is the most important thing to any player. That said, don’t be surprised to see an abundance of goals as a Chelsea fan.
Will game time prove to be TOO important?
Obviously, Olivier Giroud is ageing. One of the reasons he left Arsenal was fear over his game time with Aubameyang coming in. When a player reaches the final stages of their career, they want to squeeze in as much game time as possible. That said, Giroud may feel disheartened by Sarri’s choice to sign Wilson.
Essentially, it could go one of two ways. Either signing Wilson will make Giroud and Morata perform better, or they could begin to strop. Given they’re footballers. it wouldn’t surprise me if they opted for the latter.
I’m only kidding, Morata and Giroud seem like sensible players. Giroud has strived while being the second choice already but it may be a new feeling for Morata. Still, it will be interesting to see how it pans out should this move go ahead.
Do you think Chelsea should sign Callum Wilson?
