The first thing you probably noticed when you moved on to this page is that there aren’t any substitutes listed like there usually are here. That’s part of the reason why Allegri got such a low grade in a win. This Juve lineup simply wasn’t getting the job done and there was an obvious substitution that could’ve been made to try to change that. Instead Douglas Costa was left on the bench for the entirety of the match and Allegri was let off the hook by Zaza’s mistake. Allegri has become the definition of insanity with his constant selection of Paulo Dybala. He makes the same mistake over and over again, hoping for a different result. Some will point out that the result of the match was still a win, but in reality that doesn’t matter. We saw during the week that Juventus can be beaten when they are not at their best. The way to prevent an embarrassing loss like the one Juve suffered on Wednesday is by fixing the issues that are present before they cost the team wins. At this point Dybala starting hasn’t cost Juventus wins yet, but when the Champions League knockout stages come around these are exactly the types of issues that will be seen too late and cost Juve their chance at the Champions League trophy they have been so desperately chasing.
Massimiliano Allegri needs to be willing to make changes that strengthen the team even if it makes his star players and the fans unhappy or it will prevent Juve from reaching their goals for the year.
